What we do

Roberta’s Nursery is a kindergarten for 45 children in Machinjiri, Malawi, which we founded in 2012 with a group of friends, family and acquaintances.
Malawi is one of the poorest countries in East Central Africa.

The daily program for the children consists of playing and learning several skills: colouring, cutting, writing and reading simple letters and numbers, dancing and musical activities. They also brush their teeth every morning and have breakfast. On Friday’s all the children take a shower.

The kindergarten functions as a role model in the community. In fact, instead of being left alone to wander in the streets, the children in our school get the necessary care which will give them a big head start in later education. As a result, the teachers from the local primary school welcome “our” little students and sometimes they place them in a class higher!

Roberta’s Nursery is sponsored by donations from family and friends and is a small miracle in the middle of a very difficult situation.

At the moment we have space for 30 children and two teachers, which we have carefully selected on site in the rural area of Machinjiri.
Every year we travel to Malawi to spend two weeks with the teachers and the children. During the school year we follow the teachers through planned skype meetings where we discuss all issues related to the children and the school.
